For Anders Byström, prefabricated bathrooms are not just about the product itself. It is about understanding the construction process, market needs and the people who are going to make a project a success. Having spent his entire working life in and around the construction industry, he has built up a wealth of experience that enables him to see both the details and the bigger picture – and it is precisely this combination that he draws on today when working with Green Box’s customers.

Born into the construction industry

Anders began his career at the age of 20, working with plumbing and bathrooms. Since then, he has worked with sales, interior design, tiling, design and complete bathroom solutions. For 20 years, he ran his own business with his wife, designing, selling and fitting bathrooms and kitchens – from the initial ideas to the finished result. With a father in construction and having spent many years working closely with skilled tradespeople, architects and designers, Anders was practically born into the industry.

Tiling, in particular, has been a constant feature throughout his career. First as a natural part of his work with bathrooms, and later as a separate business venture, in which he imported and sold tiles to large parts of the northern Swedish market. It was also through his work with materials that he really began to take an interest in prefabricated bathrooms. He had been supplying the industry for several years, but at one point it became clear to him that the potential was far greater than the materials alone.

“I was driving home from a meeting one day, and suddenly realised: The future lies in prefabricated bathrooms. I’d been working with bathrooms and building materials for many years – now I wanted to work directly with prefabricated bathrooms,” says Anders.

From standard solutions to flexible bathrooms

Anders has now been working directly with prefabricated bathrooms for around 10 years. During this time, he has witnessed significant changes in the market. Whereas prefabricated solutions used to be associated with standardised bathrooms and limited choice, he now sees a whole new level of flexibility. For Anders, one of the most interesting aspects is that prefabricated bathrooms can now be used in a much wider range of projects – including projects requiring high standards of design, materials and customisation.

Nevertheless, Anders feels there is still a misconception in the market: That prefabricated bathrooms are invariably all the same, with simple and limited design options. He wants to shift this view. Because when the solution is properly integrated into the project from the outset, prefabricated bathrooms actually offer architects, developers and contractors more rather than fewer options – when it comes to the design, project finances, quality and the construction process itself.

Customer-centric advice

For Anders, good advice always starts with the customer’s situation. He sees himself as a bridge-builder between the market and Green Box – someone who brings the customers’ needs, challenges and experiences into the company. Both during to the initial discussions, the design phase and the process of identifying the solutions that create the most value for the specific project.

“I only have one boss – and that’s the customer. The market dictates what the manufacturer does, not the other way round. That’s why we must always think from the outside in.”

With many years of industry experience, Anders knows just how complex projects can be. He understands the various considerations that need to be weighed up against one another, and he knows how important it is for a consultant to be able to put themselves in the customer’s shoes. It is not just about selling a solution, but about helping the customer build smarter, reduce uncertainty and make well-informed decisions.

Important for tomorrow’s construction industry

Looking ahead, Anders has no doubt that prefabricated bathrooms will play an even greater role in the construction industry. Partly because the market is maturing, and partly because the industry is facing increasing demands for quality, documentation, time and overall cost-effectiveness. At the same time, finding skilled tradespeople is becoming increasingly difficult, making prefabricated bathrooms – which are manufactured under controlled conditions – even more relevant.
