HELHEDEN (Lysvæld)

The new area called ‘Helheden’ in the Gellerup suburb of the Danish city of Aarhus is really taking shape with another 251 new apartments now being added. This is the second building plot with homes furnished with prefabricated bathrooms from Green Box.

Part of the development of Gellerup

The development of the Gellerup area has been underway for a number of years and has included the establishment of commercial rental premises, a city park, library, climbing club, sports hall, new urban neighbourhoods and renovations of the social housing stock.

Final residential project in Helheden

Lysvæld is a housing block project of approximately 15,500 square metres designed by Sweco Architects, which was also behind the original master plan for the development of the area.

The focus for this building plot has been on ensuring well-appointed apartments with optimal natural light. As Lysvæld will be the final residential project in Helheden, the look of the buildings has been designed to ensure good interaction with the other buildings in the area.

This includes Solhverv – with 141 apartments furnished with prefabricated bathrooms from Green Box.

Carbon reductions with prefabricated elements

Like the neighbouring housing block, the Lysvæld building project is certified in accordance with the DGNB Gold standard. During the design process, a key focus area has been to reduce carbon emissions from the heavier elements. This means that carbon reductions have been incorporated in the design using lightweight, prefabricated elements, including bathrooms from Green Box.

Green Box bathrooms are developed in an innovative lightweight construction that contains only a reduced concrete layer in the floors. The lightweight construction and low weight reduce the overall carbon footprint of the bathrooms, which, as standard, only amounts to around 3 kg CO₂/m²/year.

Enggaard is building the 251 homes that make up Lysvæld. The building project is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2027.
