Consulting with focus on people, environment and construction

Kenneth Nygaard’s journey into the world of prefabricated bathrooms began with a meeting with Green Box in 2022. At that time, he worked as a senior consultant in project sales and advised companies on how to strengthen their sales efforts in complex project processes.

When he was introduced to Green Box and the company’s lightweight, prefabricated bathrooms, he quickly saw their great potential.

“I could tell that Green Box was onto something very interesting. “It’s not just a product, but a solution that challenges the way we traditionally think about construction,” says Kenneth.

He first joined Green Box as a consultant, but quickly became part of the sales department, focusing on project sales and consulting. Today, he draws on his technical expertise, commercial experience and ability to explain complex solutions in his interactions with developers, architects, consultants and contractors.

Market characterised by change

When Kenneth started in the industry, the market was marked by uncertainty. Interest rates were rising, the housing market ground to a halt and the construction industry entered a period of stagnation. At the same time, he found himself in an industry where prefabricated bathrooms still needed to be explained – especially when the solutions were based on a lightweight structure rather than concrete.

Since then, awareness of Green Box and lightweight prefabricated bathrooms has grown significantly.

“In the construction industry, new solutions must prove their worth, which is why it takes time to change habits and workflows. But we can tell that the market has shifted. “More and more people are realising that prefabricated bathrooms aren’t just about efficiency, but also about quality, documentation, low weight and a smaller carbon footprint,” says Kenneth.

In particular, he feels that environmental requirements play a much greater role today than just a few years ago. For Green Box, this means that the company’s solutions are increasingly aligned with the requirements that developers and consultants are setting for the construction projects of the future.

Highlighting opportunities

For Kenneth, consulting is to a large extent about translating technical advantages into tangible value in each individual project. It’s not enough to just explain what a prefabricated bathroom can do. You also need to be able to demonstrate why it makes sense for the specific developer, architect or contractor you’re dealing with.

“My strength is communication. I focus on understanding the customer’s needs and clearly explain how our solutions can help optimise the project – in terms of the environment, cost, time and resources,” he says.

This applies, among other things, to the discussion about lightweight structures. While some people still associate prefabricated bathrooms with heavy concrete modules or standardised solutions, Kenneth is working to paint a more nuanced picture. At Green Box, the bathroom is built using a lightweight and stable structure that can contribute to slimmer building structures, lower overall weight, shorter construction time, a higher level of documentation and better traceability.

“There are still many people who compare prefabricated bathrooms with custom-built solutions based on a very narrow perspective. “But when you look at the overall cost, construction time, quality, process and documentation, the value becomes much clearer,” says Kenneth.

When high ambitions turn into concrete solutions

“At Green Box, we’re driven by challenges. That’s how we make progress. “When we combine our own expertise with close collaboration with customers and subcontractors, we can identify new opportunities and enhance the solution for each individual project,” says Kenneth.

A good example is an apartment project in Høje Taastrup west of Copenhagen featuring 167 prefabricated bathrooms from Green Box. In this project, the developer had ambitious requirements regarding environmental impact, materials and structural optimisation.

“It was incredibly exciting to meet a customer whose values were so similar to our own. “The environment, climate, good practices and optimisation weren’t just topics of discussion – they were the guiding principles of the project,” he says.

Green Box’s solutions, expertise and network played a key role in the collaboration. Building on the bathrooms’ lightweight construction, Green Box focused specifically on material selection and optimisations that could support the developer’s climate goals. At the same time, the process demonstrated how close dialogue among the project partners involved can help translate lofty ambitions into concrete solutions.

A positive challenge to the status quo

For Kenneth, Green Box’s strength lies not only in its prefabricated bathrooms themselves, but also in the way the company challenges conventional thinking in the construction industry. Lighter structures, a lower carbon footprint, a high level of documentation and a more efficient construction process are not isolated benefits, but rather parts of the same trend toward more optimised construction.

He sees it as an important part of his role to make developers, architects and contractors aware of the opportunities that come from incorporating prefabricated bathrooms early in the process.

“We challenge conventional thinking about how a bathroom should be built. “Not just to do things differently at any cost, but because we can see that there’s a better way to solve many of the challenges in construction,” says Kenneth.

Prefabricated solutions to play a greater role in the future

As Kenneth looks to the future, he has no doubt that prefabricated solutions will play a greater role in the construction industry. The need for greater efficiency is growing, requirements for documentation and carbon footprints are becoming stricter, and access to skilled tradespeople is under pressure throughout Scandinavia.

That is precisely why he sees prefabricated bathrooms as an important part of the construction industry of the future.

“We’re building in a part of the world where labour on construction sites is expensive, and where resources must be used wisely. “That’s why it makes more and more sense to move a larger portion of the work into controlled production environments,” says Kenneth.

What drives him in his work today is the desire to make a difference for his customers – and for the industry.

“I’m motivated by helping developers and contractors optimise their construction projects. “If we can help create better solutions with a smaller environmental footprint, greater economic benefits and a more efficient process, that’s where we truly create value.”
